As we reported earlier, Team GSP teammates Michael Johnson and Jonathan Brookins have advanced to the finals of The Ultimate Fighter Season 12, and will square off this Saturday night to determine the winner of the competition.
Brookins (11-3) defeated fellow Team GSP teammate Kyle Watson on last night’s two-hour episode via unanimous decision, while Johnson (8-4) was able to upset Team Koscheck’s Nam Phan via split-decision.
Johnson, who was Team GSP’s first pick, also earned victories over Aaron Wilkinson and Alex “Bruce Leeroy” Caceres leading into last night’s episode. Brookins, Team GSP’s second pick, had earned quick first-round submission wins over Sevak Magakian and Sako Chivitchian before last night’s victory.
MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Phan will also compete this Saturday. Phan will face Leonard Garcia, who was originally scheduled to face fellow WEC alum Tyler Toner before Ian Loveland took his place this past month. Phan is the only member of this past season other than the finalists to fight on the main card this Saturday, although Kyle Watson, Sako Chivitchian, Cody McKenzie and Aaron Wilkinson will all compete in preliminary bouts.
Here is the card for this Saturday’s finale:
Stephan Bonnar vs. Igor Pokrajac
The Ultimate Fighter Season 12 Championship
Jonathan Brookins vs. Michael Johnson (“TUF 12″ championship)
Kendall Grove vs. Demian Maia
Rick Story vs. Johny Hendricks
Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan
Cody McKenzie vs. Aaron Wilkinson
Ian Loveland vs. Tyler Toner
Will Campuzano vs. Nick Pace
Pablo Garza vs. Fredson Paixao
Rich Attonito vs. Dave Branch
The Ultimate Fighter Season 12 Finale takes place this Saturday from The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
