UFC 126 continues to materialize as MMAWeekly.com reports a bout between lightweights Gabe Ruediger and Paul Taylor has been agreed upon for the upcoming Las Vegas, Nevada-stationed event.
An alumni of the fifth season of The Ultimate Fighter (where he gained infamy for failing to make weight and getting booted from the show), Gabe “Godzilla” Ruediger recently had a six-fight winning streak snapped by TUF 5 cast mate Joe Lauzon in what was Ruediger’s return to the UFC. He had appeared in the UFC once prior, losing to Melvin Guillard via TKO back in 2006. “Godzilla” was expected to appear against Paul Kelly at UFC 123 this month, but was forced out of the bout after suffering a groin injury. Training out of Millennia MMA in Rancho Cucamonga, California, Ruediger holds an overall record of 17-6 and a UFC promotional record of 0-2.
English fighter Paul Taylor will also be looking to rebound from a loss when he takes on Ruediger, but perhaps has more on the line as he is currently on a two-fight losing streak having recently dropped decisions to Sam Stout and John Hathaway. Taylor made his UFC debut at UFC 70 in 2007, earning a TKO win over Edilberto de Oliveira. Since then, he has had mixed results in the promotion; posting a record of 2-5. He recently made the drop from welterweight to lightweight, with his first (and to date only) bout in the division resulting in a very close split decision loss to Stout. Taylor holds an overall mixed martial arts record of 10-6-1.
UFC 126 is scheduled to take place this February 5th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight could be a must-win for both fighters, as the UFC’s lightweight division has become suddenly overcrowded with the influx of WEC fighters.
