Dan Henderson On “Babalu” Sobral: “He’s Known To Get Knocked Out Here And There”

Mixed martial arts veteran Dan Henderson will be looking to rebound from a disappointing decision loss to Jake Shields, which came in his Strikeforce promotional debut, this December 4th when he rematches Renato “Babalu” Sobral in the main event of Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu 2. Sobral and Henderson first squared off in the Rings promotion back in February of 2000 in what was Henderson’s ninth professional fight. He defeated Sobral via unanimous decision, but told’s TJ De Santis recently that he doesn’t believe that fight will have any bearing on their upcoming meeting.

“You know, I haven’t given a whole lot of thought to me possibly fighting ‘Babalu’ for awhile,” Henderson said when asked if he had ever considered rematching Sobral. “But he’s been one of the top guys and a real tough opponent for whoever he fights throughout his whole career. I fought him ten years ago and I probably won’t even watch that fight to get ready for this fight, because it was two different fighters back then.”

Both fighters come from grappling backgrounds, but have shown proficiency in the striking department and a gradual evolution into true mixed martial artists. Henderson thinks this will be reflected in their fight and that fans can expect to see all aspects of MMA competition when he and “Babalu” lock horns.

“I think this is gonna be an MMA fight…,” said Henderson. “It’s gonna be a good mixture of everything. We’re both known to stand up there and strike–he’s known to get knocked out here and there. Which is gonna bring up the fact that he’s gonna try and take me down and we’re gonna end up in a grappling match… I think it’s gonna be a good mixture of MMA.”

Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu 2 will be going down this December 4th at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
