Valentijn Overeem Out Of December Strikeforce Bout With Injury

Brother to Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem, Valentijn Overeem will apparently not be able to fulfill his scheduled December 4th bout with Antonio Silva due to suffering an elbow injury in training.

According to and, the exact nature of Overeem’s elbow injury is unclear and the fighter is currently awaiting test and x-ray results which will reveal the extent of the injury.

Overeem’s withdrawal from the fight card comes as a third hit, as both Herschel Walker and Jesse Finney were both forced to withdraw from their respective bouts on the card due to injury.

Overeem found his way into the Strikeforce promotion on the strength of a two-fight winning streak he recently put together. “The Python” has not had as much success as his brother in MMA–putting together a record of 28-25–but does hold notable wins over Randy Couture, Renato “Babalu” Sobral.

Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu is going down this December 4th at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri and will feature bouts between Dan Henderson and “Babalu” Sobral, Robbie Lawler and Matt Lindland, in addition to Paul Daley and Scott Smith.
