UFC Hall of Famer Randy “The Natural” Couture has expressed recently a growing interest in pursuing film roles and a waning desire to continue fighting. Couture has stated that he would consider taking interesting fights but that he doesn’t believe he has another run at the title in him at 47-years old. Speaking with MMAJunkie.com recently, Couture revealed his scheduled involvement in two upcoming films–a new project with Bruce Willis and a sequel to The Expendables.
“I’m getting ready to do a movie in Grand Rapids, Mich., here the first couple weeks of December with Bruce Willis,” Couture said. “‘Setup.’ It just happened a couple of days ago. It’s a fun character. Small part, but a fun character in kind of a gangster movie.”
Couture has appeared in several films at this point, but his role in ths Summer’s The Expendables was easily his most high-profile to date. “The Natural” told MMAJunkie that the success of the first has warranted the development of a second and that shooting is tentatively scheduled to being this Spring.
“It’s definitely happening,” Couture said. “The target for now is March to start shooting the sequel. I think the trick is going to be getting everybody free to come back and do it, but I think the first one was so successful, everybody is going to be excited to come back for the second.”
Though Couture is open about focusing more on his acting career than fighting, he has refrained from announcing an official retirement and has maintained that he will consider taking a fight if he finds it sufficiently intriguing.
“(My fighting career is on hold) for now,” Couture said. “You never know what [UFC officials] are going to throw at me. We’ll see, and if it’s interesting, I might not be able to walk away from it.”
