FiveOuncesofPain.com is reporting that UFC light heavyweight fighter Seth “The Silverback” Petruzelli has been released from his UFC contract following a first round TKO loss to Karlos Vemola at UFC 122 earlier this month.
Petruzelli is best known for defeating Kimbo Slice during the peak of his rise as a mixed martial artist in the now-defunct Elite XC promotion. Prior to his most recent stint in the UFC, which saw him defeated by both Vemola and Ricardo Romero (submission) before getting cut, Petruzelli had appeared twice in the promotion. During those earlier UFC runs, “The Silverback” posted losses to Matt Hamill (unanimous decision) and Wilson Gouveia (submission), bringing his overall UFC career record to 0-4.
Training out of The Jungle MMA with the likes of UFC middleweight Tom Lawlor, Petruzelli has amassed a professional mixed martial arts record of 12-6. He holds notable wins over Dan Severn and Kimbo Slice and his losses that occurred outside of the UFC came courtesy Mario Neto and Gan McGee.
Petruzelli was steamrolled in his latest bout in the UFC, as Vemola (who dropped to light heavyweight for the first time for this bout) came out of the gate swinging wild and heavy, scoring several takedowns before laying down some vicious ground and pound that had Petruzelli’s head bouncing off the canvas; forcing the referee to halt the bout at 3:46 of the first round.
