Afer defeating UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes in 21 seconds last night at UFC 123, BJ Penn will once again fight at 170 pounds. UFC President Dana White announced after the post-fight press conference that Penn would face Jon Fitch at UFC 127 in February.
“I already made the fight,” said White. “Him [Penn] and Fitch in Sydney.”
Fitch, who holds an overall record of 22-3, was originally scheduled to face Jake Ellenberger at UFC 126, however those plans have apparently been changed. Fitch has been working his way steadily back towards a title shot since losing a five round decision to champion Georges St. Pierre in August of 2008. Since then, Fitch has racked up wins over Akihiro Gono, Paulo Thiago, Mike Pierce, Ben Saunders and Thiago Alves (all by unanimous decision).
UFC 126 will be held at at Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia on February 27, 2010. The card is also expected to feature bouts between UFC middleweights Michael Bisping and Jorge Rivera, as well as a lightweight bout between George Sotiropoulos and Dennis Siver.
