Former UFC Middleweight Champion and fan-favorite fighter Rich “Ace” Franklin will be looking to build on the momentum he gathered after knocking out former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell back in June when he takes on another former Light Heavyweight Champion in Forrest Griffin. Speaking with 411Mania.com recently, Franklin explained why he is excited for the impending match up despite the fact that he believes the fight will be a grueling one.
“Well, I’ll tell you what, that’s what excites me the most about the match-up. Forrest and I are both very tenacious fighters and both of us are very known for our cardio and our willingness to not quit,” said Franklin. “So I think that is going to make for an exciting fight. I like the match-up. For me, February is a good time for me to come back. Mentally, I’m in a good spot. I’ll be ready to go by then. I know I’m going to come on top of my game, but I know its not going to be an easy fight either. So I’m not going to sit here and say anything about how I’m going to walk through Forrest or anything like that because I know it’s not going to happen that way.”
Franklin and Griffin are scheduled to face off this February 5th at UFC 126, which will be going down at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card will be headlined by UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva (who holds victories over both Griffin and Franklin) and Vitor Belfort, who will be duking it out in contention of Silva’s middleweight belt.
