Yushin Okami Would Rather Face Anderson Silva Than Vitor Belfort For The Title

UFC middleweight contender Yushin Okami is fighting Nate Marquardt this weekend in the main event of UFC 122 in order to determine the next contender to the UFC middleweight throne. A bout between current champion Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort will take place early next year determining the champion which the winner of Okami-Marquardt will face. Speaking during the UFC 122 pre-fight press conference today in Oberhausen, Germany, Yushin Okami revealed that he would much rather face Silva for the title than Belfort, should he make his way past Marquardt this Saturday. Props to Fighters Only for the quotes.

Silva and Okami have faced off previously, with Okami winning via disqualification at Rumble on the Rock 8 in 2006. Okami won after the up-kick which Silva delivered to his face and rendered him unconscious with was determined to be illegal. Okami does not believe the he truly holds a victory over Silva and would like to fight “The Spider” again in light of the greatness he has achieved as UFC champion.

“Anderson Silva,” Okami replied when asked who he would rather face for the belt. “It is true I won by disqualification. Actually I do not really feel I won that fight, I think really Anderson won the fight. But he is a great fighter, that is the only reason I would like to fight him for the title.”
