Strikeforce heavyweight fighter Bobby “The Dominator” Lashley’s next opponent is still undecided despite the fact that he has been out of action since this past August, where he lost to Chad Griggs in a bout with questionable refereeing. Lashley has since hinted at an early December return outside of the Strikeforce promotion, but recently indicated that that bout could be in jeopardy. Answering fan questions on a self-released video, Lashley was asked when he would return to action in MMA.
“That’s a tough question. Right now, I’m training my butt off,” Lashley said. “I’ve been doing a lot of different types of training, I’ve been bringing different people in and hopefully I will. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. I did have a date of December 11th that I was supposed to have a fight. I don’t know if that’s gonna happen but if not, I’m just gonna keep training.”
Upon hearing that Lashley planned on competing outside of Strikeforce’s boundaries, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker publicly reminded Lashley that any bouts taken while still under contract with Strikeforce (including during the 90-day renegotiation period following the expiration/fulfillment of a fighter’s contract) must first be approved by Strikeforce. Whether or not this is the reason that Lashley’s possible December fight is in jeopardy is unknown, but the former professional wrestler has also mentioned a strong desire to rematch Griggs; so, either way, Lashley has options proceeding forward.
