Two former UFC light heavyweight champions collide later this month as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson takes on Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida at UFC 123: Rampage vs. Machida live from the Palace at Auburn Hills in Detroit, Michigan. The event will mark the first time that the UFC has been in the Motor City since UFC IX in 1996.
A former Pride veteran and UFC light heavyweight champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (30-8) has scored knockout victories over Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva and decision wins over Dan Henderson and Keith Jardine. He last fought at UFC 114 this past May, where the Memphis native suffered a unanimous decision loss to rival Rashad Evans, a bout that Rampage himself called “Boring.” Rampage noted that after that loss, he was hoping for a more “exciting” opponent.
“Whenever I lose it always makes me hungrier but it also depends on how I lose,” Jackson told Fighter’s Only Magazine. “Quite honestly I would rather be fighting someone more exciting just because I feel like my last fight was really boring, a lot more boring than I wanted it to be.
“So I wanted to fight someone who is a little bit more exciting and now the pressure is on me to make the fight exciting. Now I don’t know what kind of fighter I am gonna be on the night – am I gonna play it safe just to get the win or am I gonna be the normal fighter that I am and look to make the fight exciting?”
Jackson will have his hands full with the always-elusive Machida, who is coming off of his first loss to Maurício “Shogun” Rua this past May. Jackson noted that he’s not concerned so much about winning the fight as he is about having a good fight.
“At the end of the day, me, I really don’t acre if I win or lose, my main thing is a good fight,” he said.
UFC 123: Rampage vs. Machida takes place on November 20, 2010 from The Palace of Auburn Hills in the Detroit suburb of Auburn Hills, Michigan.
