Current number one UFC middleweight contender Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort is looking at one of the toughest fights of his life looming on the horizon; the Las Vegas-stationed fighter will be fighting UFC Middleweight Champion and pound-for-pound great Anderson Silva for his belt in the first quarter of 2011. Many have speculated on who will win the intriguing bout between the two dynamic Brazilians, with some of those speculators including the fighters’ peers.
Former training partner of Silva and opponent to Vitor Belfort, PRIDE legend Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva is one such speculator and the Brazilian brawler recently commented that he believes Silva will be too much for Belfort to handle. “The Phenom” was asked about Silva’s prediction in a recent interview with Tatame.com and he responded with a cool-head, if not with a bit of acid on his tongue.
“I don’t think anything, he’s a spectator and he can think whatever he wants to,” said Belfort. “If you have a mouth, you can say whatever you want and Wanderlei has a big mouth. But it’s about cheering, everyone can cheer for their favorite, and the important is to be respectful and know how to choose the right words. In February I’ll have my chance for the belt and let’s see how it’ll be.”
Belfort scored the highlight of his career when he knocked “The Axe Murderer” out in just 44 seconds with a devastating flurry of blows back at UFC Brazil: Ultimate Brazil in 1998.
