Dana White Doesn’t Think Randy Couture Can Resist Fighting

UFC President Dana White recently spoke with concerning Randy Couture’s recent revelation that he may be done with fighting for good. White told MMAJunkie that he is supportive of whatever the UFC Hall of Famer chooses to do, but that he believes the urge to fight will be too strong to keep Couture serious about retiring.

“I don’t think he can resist (fighting), but my personal opinion is he’s had some wins, and I’d love to see a guy like him go out on top,” White said.

Couture recently said on the MMA:30 Radio Hour that his primary focus at this juncture is his acting career, which he believes will “carry me through for the next 10 or 15 years.” “The Natural” did say that he hasn’t shut the door on fighting, however, and that he is willing to hear out what the UFC has planned for him next. The 47-year old fighter hasn’t lost since a 2009 unanimous decision defeat to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at heavyweight and he has gone 3-0 since then; something White believes he should consider before hanging up the gloves.

“I’m not going to count Randy out,” said White. “Who the hell knows what he could do? He could fight until he is 57. Who knows? But I still consider him one of the best in the world at 205 (pounds).”

Though he obviously would like to see the MMA legend continue competing, White said that whatever Couture chooses he will support.

“Randy wanting to retire right now, I’d be totally cool with that,” White said. “Randy Couture wanting to fight again, I’d be totally cool with that.”

Couture last saw the inside of the cage this past August 28 at UFC 118 where he spoiled champion boxer James Toney’s MMA debut via first round submission.
