UFC President DanaWhite announced moments ago during a UFC media conference call that the WEC will be absorbed by the UFC.

“It’s time,” said White.

White noted that the UFC will be absorbing the WEC featherweight and bantamweight titles. Jose Aldo is now recognized as the UFC featherweight championship and will defend his title on the January 1st card against an opponent to be determined.

Meanwhile, the winner of the Dominick Cruz – Scott Jorgensen fight at WEC 53: Henderson vs. Pettis on December 16 will be recognized as the UFC bantamweight champion. The winner of the Ben Henderson – Anthony Pettis WEC lightweight championship bout at the same event will face the winner of the Frankie Edgar – Gray Maynard UFC lightweight championship bout.

White also announced that four UFC events will air on Versus in 2011 and the final two WEC cards will air on Versus on Nov. 11 and Dec. 16.
