MMA legend and current UFC middleweight fighter Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva is chomping at the bit to make his return to the cage from a knee surgery that has kept him out of action since a February decision win over Michael “The Count” Bisping. Silva recently spoke with Fighters Only about when he would like to make his comeback and who he would like to face once he does.
“I think I want to fight in April in Canada, I want to fight in Toronto,” Silva said. “I think against Chris Leben. I want to fight with him next.”
Leben called Silva out respectfully after filling in for him on short notice (Silva pulled out with broken ribs and the knee injury he is currently rehabbing) against Yoshihiro Akiyama back at UFC 116 and Silva has since mentioned several times that he would like to fight against “The Crippler.”
“I think he is interesting, he is my size, he is aggressive, he fights to the front (comes forward),” he said. “I think we are going to make an interesting fight.”
Silva said he is feeling good and that his recovery is going well and that all signs point to him being well enough to compete in the Spring of next year. For his part, Leben must sort out his recent DUI arrest (his second in as many years) and his scheduled bout with Brian Stann (expected to take place at UFC 125 this January 1st).
