Brazilian UFC heavyweight fighter Junior “Cigano” dos Santos is currently stuck waiting in the wings while Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar dispute Lesnar’s UFC heavyweight championship. Dos Santos will be facing the winner of that upcoming match up, and the Black House product recently told Tatame.com that he has an idea of which man he may end up fighting.
“It’s complicated, they’re very different,” dos Santos said. “Cain’s technique is good and prevails, just like his great conditioning, while Brock is an aggressive guy, heavy… I think it’ll be a good fight and I can fight any of them. I don’t have a favorite for this fight, but I believe Cain may surprise.”
As for his own role in the heavyweight title picture, “Cigano” says that he too has what it takes to beat Lesnar; and Velasquez too, for that matter. The young striker is confident he will eventually bring the belt back to Brazil and he is preparing himself diligently to face either one of the two top heavyweights.
“Now I just have to concentrate and go back to the trainings and start to think about by preparation for this title fight, since it’ll be a five rounds fight with one of the best, Velasquez or Lesnar,” he said. “I have to train hard, concentrate and focus so that I can bring this title to Brazil. I believe I have enough weapons to surprise.”
Dos Santos will perhaps be the most interested observer of this weekend’s UFC 121 heavyweight title fight between Lesnar and Velasquez; which goes down Saturday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
