UFC light heavyweight up-and-comer Ryan “Darth” Bader scored the biggest (but not the most impressive) win of his career last night over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Bader defeated Nogueira via unanimous decision at UFC 119 and, while he didn’t look exactly spectacular in victory, he still upped his position in the UFC’s light heavyweight division. Bader spoke about the win and about where he sees himself in terms of the 205lb. division at the post-fight presser.
“He’s a dangerous fighter, you’ve got to pick your poison with him,” Bader said of “Little Nog.” “I felt I caught him in the first and put him down. But mainly I wanted to be careful with his boxing. I didn’t want to just rush in and be counterpunched. There was a lot on the line and I pulled out the win, mixed it up a little.”
Bader believes that the win certainly propels him forward in the light heavyweight division but he isn’t growing impatient; like most other fighters, he says that he is eager for a shot at the belt but is going to take on whoever the UFC puts in front of him.
“I think I’m close [to a title shot]. It’s my goal. I’m pretty young in the sport and I have a lot to learn. Ultimately my goal is to have the belt some day. It’s up to the UFC who they want to put me against. Whoever’s next, it’s going to be a tough fight, no matter what.”
Bader stays undefeated in all twelve of his professional contests and moves himself one step closet to a title shot with the win over “Little Nog.” Nogueira drops to 19-4 with the loss.
