According to MMAJunkie.com, the UFC has decided to part ways with Polish light heavyweight/middleweight fighter Tomasz “The Gorilla” Drwal following his Ultimate Fight Night 22 loss to Dave Branch.
MMAJunkie spoke with Drwal’s camp and confirmed news of his UFC release and learned that “The Gorilla” is looking to fight for another organization “as quickly as possible.”
The Krakow, Poland native made his UFC debut in September of 2007 against Thiago Silva and was defeated via TKO in the second round. “The Gorilla” would bounce back from that loss, however, and post three consecutive wins over the likes of Ivan Serati (KO), Mike Ciesnolevicz (TKO), and Drew McFedries (Submission). The 2009 win over McFedries would be his last in the UFC though as he would go on to lose via ankle shredding heel hook to Rousimar Palhares at UFC 111 in March of 2010 and then, most recently, to Dave Branch via unanimous decision at Ultimate Fight Night 22.
“The Gorilla” holds an overall MMA record of 17-4-1 with ten wins coming by way of TKO or KO, five by submission and two by decision. His four losses have come twice by submission, once by TKO and once via decision. His first MMA fight, against Piotr Baginski, ended in a draw.
