Spike TV will this evening play host to the UFC’s standard pre-fight countdown show, this installment aptly titled Countdown to UFC 119. The show, which attempts to bring fans closer to fighters’ pre-fight preparations by profiling their training camps and downtime, will be airing to bring attention to this weekend’s UFC 119 event which will be going down Saturday night at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
UFC 119 pits former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir against 2006 PRIDE Open Weight Grand Prix winner Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic in a heavyweight contest that will go a long way in determining either man’s future in the heavyweight division. The two main eventers will be the main focus of the Countdown to UFC 119 special. Mir and “Cro Cop” were both considered at one time to be among the world’s best heavyweights but after a recent slip by Mir to Shane Carwin and a career slump for “Cro Cop” some are questioning how much more the two men have to offer; this fight will bring one man closer to redemption and send one further down the road toward retirement.
“Cro Cop” and Mir will not be the only focus of the countdown show however, as co-main event fighters Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ryan Bader will also be profiled. The two light heavyweights will be fighting for a chance to move further up the 205lb. ladder. MMA veteran Nogueira is undefeated in the UFC, following up an impressive knockout win over Luis Cane with a controversial split-decision win over Jason Brilz. Bader is undefeated in eleven professional mixed martial arts contests and owns a four-fight UFC win streak that he most recently capped off with a knockout win over Keith Jardine.
