PRIDE FC legend and current UFC middleweight contender Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva recently spoke with FightersOnly.com and revealed his thoughts on the upcoming UFC 119 fight card, which features bouts between former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir and PRIDE 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix winner Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic as well as a light heavyweight tilt with title implications between Antonio Rogerio “Minotoro” Nogueira and Ryan “Darth” Bader.
In the Mir-Filipovic bout, Silva believes it will be Mir bouncing back from his recent knockout loss to Shane Carwin and not “Cro Cop” continuing his current promotional win streak to 3-0.
“I think Mir is gonna beat ‘Cro Cop,'” Silva said. “On the ground, when it goes to the ground, [Mir will secure] the leg lock.”
“The Axe Murderer” chose his fellow Brazilian, the smaller of the battling Nogueira brothers, to win his fight against wrestling powerhouse Ryan Bader; though he conceded that the match up will be a tough one for “Little Nog.”
“The ‘Minotoro’-Bader fight, I’m thinking is a real interesting fight because the winner is gonna fight Jon Jones and then the winner [of that fight] is gonna fight ‘Shogun.’ I’m thinking ‘Minotoro,’ his experience is gonna take him far. His opponent, Bader, is so strong. He’s a good name I’m thinking. It’s a real tough fight for ‘Minotoro’ but I’m thinking ‘Minotoro’ is gonna win a decision.”
UFC 119 goes down this September 25th at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
