CagePotato.com has revealed that, in addition to recently signing Josh Barnett and Jorge Masvidal, that the Strikeforce fight promotion has acquired the services of another talented fighter in team Rough House standout Paul “Semtex” Daley.
Daley was climbing the welterweight ranks in the UFC with exciting knockout finishes of Martin Kampmann and Dustin Hazelett before having his trajectory altered by perennial bad guy Josh Koscheck at UFC 113. What followed after their three round fight is more than well known at this point; “Semtex” threw a sucker-punch at Koscheck well after the last bell rang that cost him his UFC career. Daley has been in the cage twice since his UFC ostracism and has picked up victories over both Daniel Acacio and, most recently, Jorge Masvidal.
“Semtex” was heavily rumored to be signing with Strikeforce but the English slugger had some questioning those rumors when he indicated a desire to return to Shark Fights (where he beat Masvidal) to fight for a title. However, Daley also recently stated an intense desire to test himself against Strikeforce Welterweight Champion and fellow post-fight brawler Nick Diaz. As CagePotato.com pointed out, the likely exit of Jay Hieron from Strikeforce will leave the promotion with little in the way of welterweight contenders, possibly putting Daley on the fast track to an intriguing bout with Diaz. Daley’s Strikeforce contract is for six fights in the promotion.
