MMAJunkie.com is reporting that of all the fighters to have competed on last night’s Shark Fights 13 card that Houston Alexander and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou were the only ones to receive bonuses for their performances. The two light heavyweight brawlers were awarded an extra $2,500 apiece for their two round slugfest.
Alexander and Sokoudjou certainly made fans who shelled out the cash for Shark Fights inaugural pay-per-view event feel that their money was well spent. The two men battled in a back-and-forth scrap that hit its fever pitch early in the second and resulted in a victorious Houston Alexander and a Sokoudjou who was left in a heap.
“The African Assassin” looked to have the fight won early on as he battered Alexander on the feet and on the canvas. A wobbled Alexander did his best to survive and actually managed to take top position on the ground in the closing moments of the first round. A renewed Alexander came into the second round guns blazing and took the fight to Sokoudjou. A big knee followed by a nice combo planted Sokoudjou on the mat and from there the finish was academic; Alexander rained down blows until the referee was forced to stop the fight. Perhaps the extra bonus money will ease the stinging loss for Sokoudjou.
Shark Fights 13: Jardine vs. Prangley took place at the Amarillo Civic Center Coliseum in Amarillo, Texas last night.
