MMAWeekly.com is reporting that former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriguez will continue on his road back to the top this September 30th when he takes on Dave Herman at Bellator 31.
Once regarded as on of the brightest heavyweight prospects in the sport, Rodriguez fell out of prominence consumed by personal demons. He ballooned to over 300 pounds and fought on small circuit local shows and bounced between victory and defeat. He has recently apparently found a renewed motivation for the sport as he has slimmed down considerably and is currently enjoying a nine-fight win streak. This fight at Bellator will mark Rodriguez’s first appearance within a notable MMA promotion in over a year. Rodriguez holds notable wins over Andrei Arlovski, Jeff Monson, Randy Couture, and Paul Buentello.
Dave Herman burst onto the heavyweight MMA scene by compiling a record of 13-0 with all finishes (mostly due to strikes). He lost a step in a bout against Choi Mu Bae at a Sengoku event in 2009 but bounced back with three wins over Josh Barnes, Don Frye, and Jim York, respectively. He was most recently seen in action against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou where he lost via disqualification due to illegal knees.
Bellator 31 is scheduled to take place this September 30th at the L’Auberge du Lac Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana. As per usual the bout will air live on FOX Sports Net.
