Former UFC Lightweight Champion BJ “The Prodigy” Penn recently took to his personal website BJPenn.com to provide fans with an update on his future and it looks like the Hawaiian fighting great will be keeping to his word and will be looking to stay as active as possible. Without giving an exact date, Penn revealed that he has been in dialogue with UFC President Dana White and that the two are looking at a November return for the Hilo native.
“Dana White’s been texting me the last couple days and it looks like I’m probably gonna be back in the ring in November sometime,” Penn said. “So, Dana’s trying to put the fight together. That’s what I know as of right now, I’ll keep you guys posted. This is gonna be good.”
Penn is coming off of back to back losses to current UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, who appears to have Penn’s number. In order for “The Prodigy” to reclaim the title of “best lightweight ever” he will need to make some changes in his training camp and find a renewed motivation for fighting; judging by Penn’s obvious excitement in the video, it looks like he could be on the right track.
The UFC is hosting two events in November, UFC 122 in Oberhausen, Germany and UFC 123 in Auburn Hills, Michigan. It appears likely (and is being reported by MMAWeekly.com) that Penn will make his return at UFC 123 on November 20th. The card is also expected to feature a light heavyweight bout between former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions Lyoto Machida and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
