Josh Thomson And JZ Cavalcante Rumored For October

Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante has made his career off fighting in hostile territory over in Japan, so stepping into Josh Thomson’s backyard of San Jose, California is just par for the course. According to reports, the lightweights will do battle at “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons” inside the HP Pavilion.

“It’s a very good fight, I think it’s a great fight for JZ,” Alex Davis, Cavalcante’s manager, told on Wednesday. “For JZ, it’s important to come fight on American soil. He’s done very, very well in Japan, he came off some injuries and took some losses because he fought not at 100%. He took a tough fight recently, he played it safe and he won, and now he’s going to fight Josh Thomson.”

Despite injuring his ribs during his last scrap against Pat Healy, Thomson managed to walk away with a 3rdRound submission victory. It was his first bout since losing his lightweight strap to reigning king Gilbert Melendez in December of 2009. “The Punk” holds an impressive 17-3 professional mark and has posted devastating finishes in 13 of those wins.

Cavalcante has managed to fly under the 155-pound radar stateside because he’s done most of his damage overseas. He owns a 15-3-1 record and was last seen taking a close split decision victory over Katsunori Kikuno at Dream.15 this past July.
