MMAWeekly.com is reporting that TUF 5 contestant Gabe “Godzilla” Ruediger and UK fighter Paul “Tellys” Kelly have verbally agreed to face off at the upcoming UFC 123 event and that bout agreements are expected to be signed soon.
Training with Team Kaobon in the United Kingdom, Paul Kelly has gone back and forth since entering the UFC in early 2008. Kelly has earned all of his three professional losses during his tenure in the Octagon, taking home defeats to the likes of Marcus Davis, Dennis Siver and most recently, Jacob Volkmann. Smattered in between those losses are victories over Paul Taylor, Troy Mandaloniz, Roli Delgado, and Matt Veach. Kelly most recently appeared in action at UFC Live 2-Jones vs. Matyushenko where he took home a unanimous decision loss to Volkmann.
Gabe Ruediger was once vilified for his turn on The Ultimate Fighter season five which saw him ejected from the show after failing to make weight. Ruediger was finally granted a return pass to the UFC after posting six straight wins in smaller promotions. “Godzilla” made his return against fellow TUF 5 alum Joe Lauzon late this August at UFC 118 and was absolutely mowed over by the Bridgewater, Massachusetts-stationed fighter. Despite his first round submission (armbar) loss, Ruediger has been invited back for at least one more chance in the promotion for stepping in for Lauzon’s originally scheduled opponent Terry Etim on late notice.
UFC 123 has yet to be officially announced by the UFC but will likely take place at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan this November 20th and should feature a light heavyweight match up between former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida.
