MMAMania.com is reporting that UFC 123 will likely see the addition of another exciting light heavyweight match up besides the headlining Lyoto Machida-Quinton “Rampage” Jackson fight; this one between upstart Phil Davis and Tim Boetsch.
Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis has been raising eyebrows in the light heavyweight division since making his UFC debut in February of this year. Davis has gone 3-0 so far in the UFC, with victories over former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion Brian Stann, Alexander Gustafsson, and most recently, Rodney Wallace. In addition to being undefeated in the UFC, Davis is also undefeated in his seven fight professional career; earning three wins by decision (all unanimous), two by TKO and two by submission. The fight against Boetsch will be his fourth fight this year.
Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch entered onto the UFC’s light heavyweight scene at UFC 81 in early 2008 where he defeated David Heath via TKO. Boetsch would not make it 2-0 though, as he would lose via TKO himself in his next fight against Matt Hamill. From there “The Barbarian” would again go 1-1, marring a win over Michael Patt with a loss to Jason Brilz. The loss to Brilz would earn Boetsch his walking papers but after posting three wins in a row in smaller promotions Boetsch was invited back to the UFC for UFC 117. Boetsch defeated Todd Brown via unanimous decision that night and will be looking to keep his job and make it 2-0 with a win over Davis.
UFC 123 is expected to take place at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan this November 20th. The card will be headlined by former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson squaring off in a light heavyweight bout.
