Alan Belcher’s MMA Future Uncertain; Undergoes Second Surgery For Detached Retina

The future of UFC middleweight fighter Alan “The Talent” Belcher’s MMA career is currently in question as he is struggling with a potentially career-ending detached right retina. The 26-year old fighter was forced to pull out of his scheduled headlining UFC Fight Night bout against Demian Maia due to the injury, which required surgery. Belcher has stated that he likely suffered the injury in training and possibly exacerbated it by flying to and from Brazil as a result of the pressure change caused by flying. Belcher’s condition doesn’t seem to be improving unfortunately; “The Talent’s” wife, Ashlee Belcher, recently took to the fighter’s Twitter account to reveal that he has had to undergo a second surgery and is in much pain as a result.

“This is alans wife @Ashleebelcher Yesterday his vision was blurry again today heading into another surgery on same eye please keep praying,” Mrs. Belcher posted.

Belcher’s wife indicated that the successfulness of the second surgery will become evident over the next month, and that “The Talent” is in for some serious discomfort in the meantime.

“We are home He is in a lot of pain though Next few weeks are really important He has to lay face down :( thanks for prayers, @Ashleebelcher.”

Belcher is currently 16-6 as a professional fighter and has gone 4-1 in his last five fights with his only loss being a razor-thin split decision defeat to Yoshihiro Akiyama. Belcher holds notable wins over Wilson Gouveia, Denis Kang, Ed Herman, Jorge Santiago and, most recently, Patrick Cote.

If you care to send Belcher “Get Well” wishes, his wife has posted the address to “The Talent’s” Mississippi gym.

“Several people have sent me @’s asking where they can send Alan a get well soon card to.gym address is 10322 gorenflo rd diberville ms 39340.”
