According to BloodyElbow.com, UFC middleweights Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort and Yushin Okami will be squaring off this November 13th at the Konig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany in the main event of UFC 122. The bout will help clarify the middleweight title picture by establishing a clear contender for UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva after Chael Sonnen.
Vitor Belfort holds a professional MMA record of 19-8 and holds notable wins over the likes of Wanderlei Silva, Heath Herring, Terry Martin, Matt Lindland and, most recently, former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin. Belfort began his UFC career at UFC 12 in 1997, where he defeated Tra Telligman via first round TKO (cut). The Brazilian fighter would go on to fight several more times in the UFC, as well as the Pride Fighting Championships, Cage Rage and Affliction. Belfort made his UFC return at UFC 103 in September of 2009 against Franklin some four years absence from the promotion. Belfort defeated Franklin via first round knockout at a catchweight of 195 pounds. He was expected to face Anderson Silva at UFC 112 in April but was forced out of the bout with a shoulder injury.
With a record of 25-5, Yushin “Thunder” Okami is one of the most overlooked middleweights currently competing in the UFC middleweight division; a fact mostly attributed to his methodical and measured attack. Nonetheless, he holds wins over talented 185ers Mike Swick, Alan Belcher, Dean Lister, Evan Tanner, UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva (albeit via disqualification after Silva knocked him out with an upkick) and Mark Munoz. Okami is currently on a two-fight win streak, with victories over Munoz and Lucio Linhares.
UFC 122 is also expected to feature bouts between Krzysztof Soszynski and Goran Reljic, Amir Sadollah and Peter Sobotta and Jorge Rivera and Alessio Sakara.
