Number one Strikeforce contender Fabricio “Vai Cavallo” Werdum recently underwent elbow surgery to remove loose bone fragments from his elbow and told Sherdog.com that the surgery was a success and that 27 fragments were removed from his elbow.
Werdum had said after his shocking upset win over Fedor Emelianenko that the elbow injury had been a nagging one that had gone untreated over several fights. He decided to take the time off to receive surgery following his impressive victory over “The Last Emperor” and said that he is looking forward to making his return at full capacity.
“My elbow is feeling really good already and I’m in physical therapy now,” Werdum said. “I want to make sure I come back when I’m 100 percent.”
Werdum is expected to be the next opponent to Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem, after he has completely recovered from surgery of course. Werdum raised his status in Strikeforce’s heavyweight division tenfold when he submitted Emelianenko with a triangle-armbar at Strikeforce: Fedor vs Werdum this past June.
Werdum is 14-4-1 as a professional and holds notable wins over Brandon Vera, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, Fedor Emelianenko, Gabriel Gonzaga, and Alistair Overeem. He last appeared in action against Emelianenko in June.
