King Mo Talks Using Oxygen Can In Saturday’s Defeat

Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal may be a former light heavyweight champion following his loss to Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante at “Strikeforce: Houston,” but he isn’t a cheater. On the heels of his controversial, yet legal, inhaling of a TRUO2 Portable Oxygen Can in Saturday’s defeat, King Mo states the canister was in no way a performance enhancer.

“No effect, man,” Lawal told of his O2 use during the scrap. “People want to make a big deal about it, but it’s not a big deal. I used it in training camp for a week, (and) it helped me slow my heart rate down and focus my breathing – that’s about it. I could have done it without the oxygen can.”

One thing his majesty couldn’t do without against Feijao was utilize his All-American wrestling skills. Unfortunately, he forgot to execute his ground attack and got caught up in a shootout with the Brazilian.

“I didn’t really wrestle like I could have,” Lawal admitted. “I could have kept him more confused by faking, but I was going out there to try and bang with him.

“I just got overconfident. I started hitting the body and I saw his facial expression change. I just got dumb.”

King Mo lost his title after capturing it in April.
