Veteran boxer James “Lights Out” Toney is making the mostly unprecedented transition from boxing to MMA as he will be taking on UFC hall of famer Randy “The Natural” Couture this August 28th at UFC 118. Toney has insisted continuously that he is going to defeat Couture and eventually capture the UFC heavyweight belt. He recently spoke with Fight! Magazine and offered his thoughts on Couture (very few of them positive) and reiterated his belief that he will defeat Couture.
First off, Toney challenged Couture’s title of UFC hall of famer and also scoffs at Couture’s chances against him come August 28th.
“He gets to be a hall of famer while he’s still fighting,” said Toney. “In any other sport you got to be retired five years to get in the hall of fame. C’mon man, huh? But you know what? Come August 28th, it’s over for him. He’s gonna be in with one of the best fighters he’s ever been in with, boxing or MMA. The guy’s garbage man, I can’t wait to see him.”
Couture appeared in the August 13th-released Sylvester Stallone film The Expendables and James Toney said that he is going to shake Couture out of his Hollywood daze and bring him back to reality.
“Randy, this ain’t The Expendables, this is real baby,” warned Toney. “This ain’t Hollywood. This is what I do for a living, I love to hurt people. I’m a real fighter. I’m the best fighter you’ve ever seen. You’ll never see another like this again because this is your last fight, period. I promise you that.”
Toney and Couture will square off in a heavyweight bout in the co-main event of the evening this August 28th at UFC 118: Edgar Vs. Penn II. BJ Penn and Frankie Edgar will be rematching in a lightweight title fight where Edgar will seek to hold on to the belt he took from Penn this past April at UFC 112.
