Bobby Lashley vs. Chad Griggs
Round 1: Lashley scored a takedown right off the bat and got side control. Lashley peppered Griggs with punches and elbows on the ground. Griggs was able to get back to his feet and nailed Lashley with a big right hand, but Lashley got him back down. Griggs was able to work his way back to his feet. Lashley pressed Griggs against the cage and both fighters were eventually separated and placed back in the center of the cage. Lashley shot again and took Griggs to the mat and controlled Griggs on the mat for the remainder of the round. FightLine.com scores the round 10-9 for Lashley.
Round 2: Lashley looks exhausted at the start of the round. Lashley scored another big takedown and controlled Griggs on the ground. Lashley stayed in side control and pegged Griggs with punches to the body and head. Lashley got full mount and started landing some ground and pound. Lashley maintained his position and continued to drop punches. With a little over a minute left, the referee stood Lashley up and had the doctor check out a cut under Lashley’s left eye. The doctor gave his OK, and they were back in the center of the cage. Lashley went for another takedown and this time Griggs was able to defend and drop some heavy punches on Lashley as the round ended. The referee ruled that Lashley wasn’t able to continue and the fight was over.
Chad Griggs defeated Bobby Lashley via TKO (doctor’s stoppage) at 5:00 of Round 2.
After the bout, Griggs noted that it was the best day of his life. He noted that he was trying to get Lashley tired and that he knew that he was hurting him. He said that only 15 people thought he had a chance and it was all his family.
