CagePotato.com is reporting that the list of injured fighters forced to withdraw from the upcoming UFC Fight Night 22 card has grown by two.
UFC lightweights Matt Wiman and Mac Danzig were scheduled to square off in the co-main event of the card but have both been forced out of their bout with injuries. Danzig pulled out first after suffering a chest injury in training. He was replaced by Efrain Escudero but shortly after, Wiman broke his arm in training and was forced out of the bout himself. Now Escudero will take on Charles Oliveira. Oliveria’s original opponent, John Gunderson, will now be facing MMA veteran Yves Edwards.
Alan Belcher was the first fighter forced off of the UFC Fight Night 22 card after he separated his retina in training. Belcher is required to undergo surgery for the injury and is left only to wait while his eye recovers to see if his vision improves enough for him to be able to fight again. Belcher was scheduled to take on Demian Maia but now Maia will face Mario Miranda. Belcher and Maia were intended to headline the card; Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares is now the main event of the evening.
Aaron Simpson and Nick Catone were also both forced out of their respective bouts; Simpson with a staph infection and Catone to undergo shoulder and back surgery. Their opponents, Dave Branch and Tomasz Drwal, will now face each other on the card.
UFC Fight Night 22 is scheduled to take place will take place this September 15th at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck will begin airing following the fights.
