UFC heavyweight fighters Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin have begun engaging in a public war of words via their respective Twitter accounts and neither heavy hitter is pulling their punches.
The feud (via Twitter at least) began when Nelson commented publicly about Carwin’s involvement in a federal court case surrounding a steroids conspiracy. Carwin was named as one of 22 customers to some seventeen doctors who allegedly distributed illegal anabolic steroids for the scrutinized Applied Pharmacy Services company.
Nelson wrote, “Just woke up and was reading the mma news websites and only one had real news ufc champ shane carwin steroids court case.” He added in his next post, “I am surprised that athletes in mma do steroids ;( that explains body types.”
Carwin, who has not yet publicly commented on his implication in the steroids case, Tweeted back, saying, “I love Roy Nelson trying to elevate his status by talking smacks. Hopefully he is doing so on a treadmil. Some have rolls he has a bakery.”
Carwin also wrote of Nelson’s impending surgery, “what surgey? Roy getting the lap band?”
Though Nelson has frequently mentioned the desire to take on Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira when he returns to the cage, the ground may be getting set here for a grudge match between Nelson and Carwin. The factors that will determine that eventual match will be Nelson’s recovery time and the fallout from Carwin’s implication in the steroids case. Either way, MMA fans are guaranteed some entertainment in the mean time from the two heavyweights.
