On Monday, former IFL heavyweight champion Roy “Big Country” Nelson had surgery on his knee to repair the damage he suffered in a unanimous decision loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC 117.
Like only the charismatic Nelson can do, he took a brief moment to pose for some playful pictures before going under the knife. He also used his Facebook page to push for his next opponent.
Although he fought valiantly, “Big Country” was unable to upset the talented Brazilian, who earned top contender status with the victory. While he couldn’t derail dos Santos, it appears that he wants to keep it in the Team Black House familia because he was calling out another heavyweight that recently went on the shelf.
“I just read big nog is out, so after I get knee surgery, we both can give the fans a show of heart, and great jits, and the next title shot after that,” Nelson wrote.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was originally scheduled to rematch Frank Mir at UFC 119 in September, but he was abruptly replaced by Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic over the weekend after reportedly injuring his hip.
