BJ Penn Looking To Get The Finish Against Frankie Edgar

This August 28th former UFC lightweight champion BJ “The Prodigy” Penn will attempt to reclaim the belt that he believes should never have left his waist when he rematches Frankie Edgar at UFC 118. In a recently released UFC hype video for the bout, Penn reveals that the result of their first meeting has lit a fire under him and that he is intending on doing whatever is necessary to earn back his championship belt.

“If anyone thinks I’m sitting in Hilo, sitting on my ass, you’re crazy,” Penn said to any who would doubt his dedication to training.

“The Prodigy” didn’t shy away from taking verbal potshots at his opponent; whether it be his assessment of Edgar’s potential or of his performance in their UFC 112 fight, Penn did not give his opponent an ounce of credit.

“They don’t have much to work with, they’ve only got Frankie Edgar,” said Penn. “I’m not afraid to exchange with him in any way. I don’t think he wants to exchange with me. He’s just going to be running around and he’s just gonna try to jazz up what he did last time, a little quicker, a little better, maybe throw a kick.”

The Hilo, Hawaii native insisted that Edgar’s style of out-working and out-pacing his opponent will not work twice against him and that he will pin “The Answer” down.

“He can run around the ring all he wants,” Penn said. “Sooner or later he has to step up to me and he has to do something and when that happens, that’s gonna be the time.”

As for what he will do when he does have Edgar pinned, Penn said that he plans on doing whatever is necessary to finish the New Jersey-stationed fighter.

“I wanna knock him out or submit him or do something, or slam him on his head and have him get knocked out from that,” said “The Prodigy.” “I don’t know what it’s gonna be. I’m all about finishing my guy and I cannot wait, cannot wait to finish him.”

When the fight is over and the dust settles, Penn’s goal is for Edgar to realize what it is like to truly face one of the best fighters in the world.

“After the fight’s done I want him to look at me I want him to know that that’s BJ Penn,” he said. “That’s what it’s like to fight the world champion.”

Penn and Edgar will square off for the UFC lightweight championship this August 28th at UFC 118 which will air live from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The card will be headlined by the Randy Couture-James Toney heavyweight matchup; a fight that will pit one of boxing’s best against one of MMA’s best.
