According to FightersOnly.com, former UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira has been forced to pull out of his upcoming UFC 119 rematch against fellow former champion Frank Mir with an undisclosed injury.
A source close to the Brazilian fighter told Fighters Only that “Big Nog” suffered an injury in training that will require surgery. Nogueira is apparently expected to be sitting out until 2011 at the earliest and is “incredibly frustrated” at having to pull out of the fight.
Fighters Only has also become privy to the fact that the UFC has allegedly already found a replacement for “Big Nog” and that fighter is expected to be a big name opponent, possibly Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic.
Mir and Nogueira were set to headline UFC 119 opposite “Minotauro’s” twin brother Antonio Rogerio Nogueira who will be taking on Ryan Bader in a light heavyweight contest. The bout would have been a rematch of their 2008 meeting at UFC 92 where Mir flattened “Big Nog” in the second round. The fight’s ending was made controversial when it was learned that Nogueira had spent time in the hospital with a severe staph infection shortly before the fight.
UFC 119 is scheduled to go down September 25th at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
