It is another sad day in a long string of sad days for former UFC lightweight champion Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver. Pulver looked to rebound from a five-fight losing streak earned in the WEC by appearing on Saturday night’s Powerhouse World Promotions: War on the Mainland card against relative unknown Diego Garijo.
Unfortunately for Pulver, he was unable to stop the younger Garijo from adding another inch of soil on top of his MMA career’s grave. Both men came out swinging in the first round but it was Garijo who would land with force, dropping Pulver early with a hard left hand. After that, the finish was merely a formality and Garijo locked up a guillotine choke on the downed Pulver that forced the fan favorite fighter to tap out.
With the loss, Pulver drops to 0-6 in his last six fights, he has not made it out of the first round in his last five outings.
“Lil’ Evil” owns an impressive and decorated career and can lay claim to being the first UFC Lightweight Champion ever. With victories over BJ Penn, Caol Uno, Joe Stevenson, and Cub Swanson and having spent time in the ring/cage with the likes of Takanori Gomi, Hayato Sakurai, Duane Ludwig, Din Thomas and Urijah Faber, Pulver is one of the most experienced and well-versed MMA fighters competing today. With six losses in as many fights, however, it is unclear for how much longer Pulver will continue competing as it appears clear that his best days are behind him.
