James Toney Responds To Boxing Peers David Haye And Bernard Hopkin’s Criticism

World champion boxer James “Lights Out” Toney has decided to take the plunge into the sport of mixed martial arts and will do so against MMA legend Randy “The Natural” Couture later this month. All of this is by Toney’s own machinations and it comes as no surprise that he carries with him a strong confidence into this bout; Toney asked for a fight against Couture because he truly believes he will win. Some of his peers in the boxing world, specifically David Haye and Bernard Hopkins, are not so convinced of Toney’s chances and believe that “Lights Out” will be in over his head against Couture. Toney recently spoke to ESPN UK and issued a response to Haye and Hopkins.

“I don’t like neither one of them anyway so it don’t matter,” said Toney. “I don’t care about the boxing community. I care about James Toney. It’s about James Toney and Randy Couture. It’s not about James Toney and boxing and James Toney and MMA. This is James Toney and Randy Couture so for Bernard he can go somewhere and get his damn teeth fixed. And David Haye, he’s gay. I don’t care about none of that. So they can just listen to all their bull****.”

Toney will have the chance to prove his growing number of doubters wrong this August 28th when he takes on Couture in the co-main event of UFC 118, going down at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The card will be headlined by the lightweight title fight rematch between Champion Frankie Edgar and former champ BJ Penn. The two first met this past April at UFC 112 and fought to a five round decision that went in Edgar’s favor, a decision which many found to be controversial.
