Pat Barry Helps Other Heavyweights Prepare For Battle

Pat Barry is fresh off the biggest loss of his career, yet his stock has never been higher. UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, the man who recently submitted “HD” at UFC 115, have reached out to the dynamic kickboxer to help them prepare for their impending bouts.

“I’m talking to Cro Cop. Brock Lesnar wants me to come and be his sparring partner,” Barry told WisconsinCombatSports. “You can’t write this, man. This isn’t even a dream. This is just all around fabulous. I’m just going to keep riding with it and keep screaming ‘thank you’ out the window to somebody.”

Barry owns an explosive 5-2 professional MMA record, as all of his fights have ended before the final horns blared (five TKO wins and two submission losses). His stand-up game and frame are quite similar to some of the heavyweight elites, like former interim champ Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez – Lesnar’s past and future foes, respectively.

“Brock Lesnar has asked for me to come and be his sparring partner for a month before he fights Cain Velasquez,” said Barry. “How cool is that? A month with the heavyweight champion of the universe Brock Lesnar, the biggest scariest dude on earth, and then a month with a legendary striker like Cro Cop.

“Cro Cop says he might fight again in November and he says as soon as my hand is healed, he would like to fly me to Croatia for a month to come and be his sparring partner.”

Barry now humbly finds himself in the position of assisting a pair of heavyweight counterparts prepare for battle. While they might think he’s there for their benefit, the 31-year-old intends on walking away a much better fighter as well.
