MMADieHards.com has learned that UFC middleweight Nick Catone has been forced to bow out of his scheduled UFC Fight Night 22: Marquardt Vs. Palhares bout with Tomasz Drwal due to a shoulder injury.
“Getting shoulder surgery Thursday and an epidural shot in my back the following week,” Catone said. “All banged up. Pretty bummed out right now.”
Catone, who snapped a two-fight losing streak with a January split-decision victory over Jesse Forbes, explained that his shoulder has been persistently injured and that he is no longer willing to jeopardize his career by fighting hurt.
“Hard to fight at 75% at this level,” Catone said. “I need to get healthy, been banged up and training on cortisone shots last year and a half. I have a tear, bone spurs and a cyst. Three herniated discs in my back from when I injured it in April still holding me up from some of my training.”
Catone also revealed that his training partner Dave Branch is going to step up to face Drwal in his stead and he is confident that his teammate will bring home a victory all the same.
“Teammate Dave Branch will get it done in my place,” he said.
Catone is 2-2 in the UFC having posted losses to Tim Credeur and Mark Munoz and earned victories over Derek Downey and Jesse Forbes. “The Jersey Devil” is 8-2 overall.
