Chael Sonnen Talks Loss

Chael Sonnen was only one minute and 50 seconds away sipping the sweet taste of victory, but middleweight king Anderson Silva miraculously found a way to prove Yogi Berra true at UFC 117 on Saturday night.

“It ain’t over ’til it’s over,” the quotable baseball legend once astutely pointed out.

Despite dominating their highly anticipated showdown for the better part of 5Rounds, something the chatty challenger had promised he was going to do, Sonnen let the opportunity of a lifetime slip right through his fingers and wrap around his neck.

“At the end of the day, you either get your hand raised or you don’t, and I didn’t. That’s it. I’ll live with it, but I’m devastated,” Sonnen said at the post-fight press conference. “It’s devastating, I can’t sugarcoat it. My heart’s broken.

“I came up with the silver medal. I wrestled for a world championship, I came in second. I fought in the WEC for a world championship, I came in second. Now I fought in the UFC and again I’m a runner-up and it hurts really bad.”
