Josh Koscheck Talks Coaching On ‘TUF 12′ Opposite Georges St. Pierre

Number one welterweight contender Josh Koscheck recently wrapped up shooting the twelfth season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show where he serves as opposing coach to UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre. Koscheck, who lost a unanimous decision to St. Pierre in 2007, says that he learned a few things about St. Pierre during the show’s taping that he thinks could be eventual keys to victory over the dominant Canadian champion.

“GSP’s personality is, well, I’ll say that I’ve learned that he’s a guy who doesn’t like confrontation,” Koscheck told Yahoo! Sports on Monday. “He tries to act a certain way and be perceived as an A-class person. He doesn’t make mistakes and he likes to live his life a certain way. Well, I’m a lot different. I’m a guy who likes conflict. I like to talk. I like to express my feelings and my opinions. I think everyone is going to be interested to see the way our personalities mesh.”

Koscheck also mentioned that he thinks he picked up on a flaw in St. Pierre and that is mental weakness, a flaw which many of “Rush’s” previous opponents have mentioned but few have yet to expose.

“I saw some weakness in him,” Koscheck said, “and I definitely plan to use that against him. I think he knows he has his hands full with me. Well, I don’t know, maybe he doesn’t. Maybe he doesn’t believe I’m a better fighter than I was [in 2007] and if he doesn’t, it’s his mistake. If he feels that way, I know he’s going to wake up after getting knocked out and say to himself, ‘Oh [expletive], I should have taken him seriously.’“

The American Kickboxing Academy product also told Yahoo! Sports that he is confident with his performance as a coach on TUF 12 and that he is also confident in his ability to defeat St. Pierre.

“I’m confident and I believe in myself and I believe I’m going to win and Georges knows that now,” Koscheck said. “How people wind up perceiving that, frankly, I don’t care. I think this is a good season and people will enjoy it, but I’m all about winning. If the fans like me, great, but that’s not my goal in this. My goal is to get that belt and that’s what this is all about.”

Koscheck and St. Pierre will square off upon the conclusion of the show’s airing on Spike TV, likely at the officially unconfirmed UFC 124 show sometime in December.
