Forced to pull out of his UFC 118-scheduled bout with Alessio Sakara with a broken arm, Jorge Rivera has been replaced by Gerald Harris. MMAJunkie.com has reported that Harris has verbally agreed on the bout and that the bout agreements will be signed soon.
Coming off of an impressive slam knockout win over Dave Branch at UFC 116 earlier this month, Harris is undefeated in three UFC fights and holds an overall record of 17-2 as a professional. Harris was a cast member on the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter but was eliminated by the now-welterweight Amir Sadollah. All three of Harris’ UFC wins (over John Salter, Mario Miranda and Dave Branch, respectively) have come via KO or TKO.
Sakara is also currently on a three fight win streak in the UFC although his overall UFC record is 6-4 due to previous losses in the organization. Sakara, who recently cancelled a proposed UFC 116 bout against Nate Marquardt due to the death of his father, is currently buoyed by a KO win over James Irvin, another against Joe Vedepo and a split-decision win over Thales Leites.
UFC 118 is scheduled to go down on August 28th and will be headlined by the lightweight title fight rematch between Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn. Randy “The Natural” Couture will also appear on the card and will be taking on boxing champion James “Lights Out” Toney in a heavyweight bout.
