SportsNet.CA is reporting that a heavyweight battle between Gabriel Gonzaga and Brendan Schaub has been arranged for UFC 121.
Schaub owns a respectable 6-1 professional record and was last seen slapping Chris Tuchscherer silly at UFC 116. Although it’s unlikely he’ll post another 67-second TKO victory on an athlete as accomplished as Gonzaga, a W over the former top contender could solidify his spot among the division’s elite.
After putting Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic to sleep at UFC 70, many believed Gonzaga would emerge as a consistent contender to the crown. Although he holds an impressive 11-5 resume, “Napao’s” losses have come against some of the best in the world (Fabricio Werdum x 2, Randy Couture, Shane Carwin and Junior dos Santos).
UFC 121 takes place October 23rd and will feature a heavyweight clash between champion Brock Lesnar and top contender Cain Velasquez.
