Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields has officially signed with the UFC, according to the official website of his training camp.
“Jake Shields will be debuting at the 170lbs weight division in the UFC,” GracieFighter.com stated. “After careful consideration and consulting with UFC representatives it was determined Jake would be finally going back to his original fighting weight.”
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed earlier this month that the company had waived the final 2-3 week exclusive matching period they were allotted and opted to release Shields from his contract.
The website also noted that Shields’ first opponent has already been determined.
“Jake’s opponent is one of the UFC’s top contenders and will be announced shortly,” the site stated.
Shields heads to the UFC with a 25-4-1 record and is coming off of 14 straight wins.
