UFC 116 will be a hard card for the UFC to top in 2010 as the night was filled with exciting fights and surprising finishes. To show their appreciation, UFC brass handed down fight night bonuses worth $75,000 including the standard Knockout and Submission of the Night bonuses and two Fight of the Night bonuses.
Earning Submission of the Night was undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar for his come-from-behind arm triangle win over Shane Carwin.
Preliminary card fighter Gerald Harris was awarded Knockout of the Night for a ridiculous third round slam knockout that opened itself up when opponent Dave Branch pulled guard against the fence.
Earning Fight of the Night honors for their gutsy performances were Chris Leben and Yoshihiro Akiyama, who battled it out for the majority of three rounds before Akiyama was forced to tap to a triangle choke, and Stephan Bonnar And Krzysztof Soszynsnki earned the unprecedented second FOTN bonus for their back-and-forth two rounder that saw Bonnar clinch the win with strikes in the second round.
The bonus amounts and winners were announced at the post-fight presser and in addition to those announced UFC President Dana White, who called the night the best of his career in an interview with Ariel Helwani, said that there are more bonuses to come. UFC 116 went down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
