Carwin appropriately walks out to “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor” and looks very calm and confident. Brock Lesnar looks like he means business as he makes his way to the cage to the strains of “Enter Sandman” by Metallica. Referee Josh Rosenthal will be the man closest to ground zero.
Round 1: Lesnar does not come out Southpaw as he mentioned that he would. Both men showing respect for the other. Carwin clips Lesnar in the first exchange and wobbles him, Lesnar immediately shoots for the takedown and Carwin gets up with a whizzer. Carwin is all over Lesnar with punches and Lesnar is in big trouble. Carwin lands a knee and Lesnar goes down in a heap, Carwin is all over him. Lesnar is bleeding and barely hanging on. Carwin is posturing up and reigning down blows. Lesnar is somehow surviving this and Carwin is slowing his attack. Carwin with a big elbow. Lesnar trying to push Carwin off of him, he makes some space but he is far from being out of danger. Lesnar scrambles back to his feet, presses Carwin against the cage and tries for the takedown. Lesnar with a knee. It actually looks like this will make it into the second round somehow. Lesnar took a ridiculous amount of punishment. Fightline.com scores the round 10-8 for Carwin
Round 2: Carwin winks at Lesnar to start the round. Carwin looks a little tired but Lesnar doesn’t ecxactly look fresh. Lesnar throws a right. Carwin pushes a one-two which Lesnar easily avoids and turns into a takedown. Lesnar in Carwin’s half guard. Lesnar gets the mount and then almost immediately goes for an arm triangle. Carwin taps, it’s over.
Carwin and Lesnar embrace and raise each other’s hands.
Brock Lesnar defeated Shane Carwin via Submission (arm triangle) at 2:19 of Round 2.
Lesnar says that this night isn’t about him, it’s about his family, his doctors, his training partners and staff. He says that he stands before the crowd a humble champion and the toughest SOB around. Lesnar credits Carwin for having heavy hands and says that he had to weather the storm.
Carwin calls Brock a “tough son of a b***h” for surviving the first round onslaught and says that he may have punched himself out, says he will be back and better than ever.
