War Machine To Serve A Year In Jail

According to the Associated Press, embattled former UFC welterweight fighter War Machine’s well-publicized string of assaults and legal troubles have finally caught up to him as the 28 year old has reportedly been sentenced to a year in jail as a result of a night club scuffle involving a bouncer in San Diego.

MMA fans became familiar with War Machine during his stint on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Hughes Vs. Team Serra when he was better known as Jon Koppenhaver (he has since legally changed his name to War Machine) and actually showed some promise as a mixed martial arts fighter. Machine won his UFC debut at The Ultimate Finale 6 where he knocked out fellow TUF castmate Jared Rollins in the third round, earning himself a Fight of the Night bonus in the process. He was released from the UFC after posting a loss to Yoshiyuki Yoshida, turning down a fight proposed by UFC matchmaker Joe Silva and making disparaging comments about recently deceased UFC middleweight fighter and former champion Evan Tanner. He went on to fight seven more times in several different small-time promotions but all of that was overshadowed by his decision to embark on a career as a porn star and by several altercations the fighter involved himself in.

War Machine has been previously arrested for his role in pummeling a man after he had removed him from consciousness with a choke, for his role in a night club brawl in Las Vegas and for his role in a brawl that took place at a fellow porn star’s birthday party. He has been ordered to report for his one year jail sentence approximately one week after his next fight against John Alessio at Tachi Palace Fights 5 which will be going down on July 9th.
